Forget the saucepan! Use your crockpot-for-rhubarb stewed with savory spices to create rhubarb-toppings.

It's not just for meat. You can use your slowcooker for lots of things besides that.

Make great stewed rhubarb dishes to eat by itself, or as a great topping for ice-cream or cake.

Your crockpot will do all of the work for you.



We are so accustomed to loading up our slow-cookers with meats for the day, we forget that they can achieve the same results with fruits and vegetables as well.

If you want to make a tasty sauce, and can't be home to do it, use those slowcooker-rhubarb recipes for compote you've been wanting to try, but just haven't had the time. It will be a nice treat to come home to.


CROCKPOT RHUBARB (Stewed)

4 1/2 cups chopped rhubarb
2/3 cups white sugar
1/3 cup water
2 tblsp. butter
1 tsp. vanilla extract

Combine the rhubarb, water and sugar and place in the crockpot.

Cover and cook on low setting for 6 - 7 hours.

Turn off the machine, add butter and vanilla. Combine well.

Serve chilled.

Slowcooker for Rhubarb and Strawberries

6 cups chopped rhubarb
1 1/4 cups white sugar
1 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. orange zest
1/3 cup grape juice

Combine all ingredients and place in slowcooker on low heat for
6 hours. Make sure rhubarb is tender.

Add: 2 cups of raspberries or cut fresh strawberries, and cook for
one more hour on low heat.

This can be served hot or cold over lemon or plain pound cake, Angel-Food-Cake, or ice-cream, especially vanilla.


Instead of using your crockpot-for-rhubarb and few other recipes, do you as a rule use your crockpot much at all? If you want to get much more use out of your slow-cooker, you should have some basic Crock Pot Staples on hand. It's a very basic list.


Did you know?...2 1/2 hours of low heat in the oven is equal to 1 hour high heat in your crockpot. Depending on the make of your slowcooker, it can vary but not by much.

Also, having a peek inside by taking off the lid increases your cooking time by as much as 30 minutes.
